The goal of this game is to review rhythm notation and vocabulary with upper
elementary/ middle school students in a way that encourages teamwork and
collaboration, along with some friendly competition, without you (the teacher)
having to give many directions or instruction. This is perfect for the end of the
year or right before a break when nobody is listening but you still want to
review and keep students engaged without a power struggle, and works great in upper elementary or middle school general music, or middle or high school band, orchestra, or choir classes!

The materials and the rules are meant to be adapted to your specific students
and situation, but you’ll find the rules I use with detailed explanations of how to run the game included in the resource. There are slides to project and pages to print to use in the game play, and those are included in PowerPoint and PDF formats, with tips for using the slides in google slides included as well.

In the game, students work in small groups to read and perform rhythm notation and dynamics symbols, then play them on instruments and then as part of an ensemble, earning points for their team for accurate performances along the way. Tips for adapting the content to the specific rhythm elements and music vocabulary your students are learning are included as well.
